Chronic Lyme Disease Research
Developing effective treatments for people with chronic Lyme disease

Why is chronic Lyme disease so difficult to eliminate from the body?

In collaboration with a local research laboratory, we are designing a research study on healing different forms of chronic Lyme disease. There are three main challenges that we are researching effective treatments and herbal remedies for:

  1. Lyme biofilm: Lyme has been shown by Dr. Alan Macdonald to create a protective shield called a biofilm. The protects the bacteria from medicines that would kill it.
  2. Neurogical Lyme disease is difficult to heal in the brain due to the blood-brain barrier which stops most herbs and antibiotics.
  3. Lyme disease can hide in the body in it's cyst form. We are investigating herbs that are effective at killing this form of the bacteria..

In order to address the biofilm challenge, we are looking an herb called Terminalia Chebula to determine it's anti-Lyme properties. We are also investigating it's ability to cut through the Lyme biofilm. Previous research shows this herb to be effective at cutting through the pseudonomas biofilm and killing the bacteria in laboratory experiments.

We are selecting herbs that have properties for killing the cyst form of the borrelia bacteria. They will be applied to cultured Lyme bacteria cysts to determine their ability to kill this form of the pathogen. They will also be combined with other anti-Lyme herbs to determine their effectiveness at killing other forms of the bacteria.

We are also investigating herbs that have demonstrated an ability to help to restore neurological functioning in patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, ALS, or Parkinson's Disease. They will be applied to cultured Lyme bacteria to determine their ability to kill this pathogen. These herbs will also be prescribed to people with neurological problems linked to their Lyme infection.

We are currently in the design phase of our research.
